Lomma - Quality of living is one of our cornerstones
Lomma Municipality is a good municipality to live in, with attractive homes and good schools, as well as being a place where business-owners can feel at home. For Lomma Municipality, quality is self-evident. “Sweden's Quality Municipality”, “Best Municipality to Live In” and “Sweden’s Best Municipality for Schools” are some of the honours the municipality has received over the last few years.
Although we are proud of these plaudits, we cannot rest on our laurels. Instead we are looking to the future. Today, the municipality´s inhabitants, totaling around 22,000, mainly live and work in the three built-up areas: Bjärred with 9,250 inhabitants, Lomma with 10,000 inhabitants and Flädie with around 240 inhabitants. The municipality offers a secure living environment and house construction is booming. Lomma is currently growing in many places, and confidence in the future is huge. In Lomma Harbour, a brand new residential area is being built, an exciting city transformation project where the old harbour is being converted to provide new city space.
Travelling to the municipality is easy from Lund, Malmö and Copenhagen, either by car via the E6 or by public transport. You can reach all these towns within 30 minutes.
Business life in Lomma and Bjärred has changed a great deal over the last few decades. Lomma has changed from being a mill town with a manufacturing industry to its current position of having a diversified business life. What distinguishes the business world as a whole is a large number of sole traders within the consultancy and company service sector.
One focus area is development of the centre, and work is under way to improve and develop trade and service. This is happening in both the centre of Lomma and the harbour, and on a small scale in a business area just outside Borgeby.
Within the municipality, you will also find the Swedish University of Agricultural Sciences (SLU) in Alnarp with its internationally renowned research and educational programmes. Lomma Municipality has commenced a partnership with SLU Alnarp by sponsoring a company incubator in Alnarp. The hope is, that employees and students at the university can go on and realise their company ideas in close cooperation with other established companies within green businesses.
