Tomelilla is a distinct trading centre with a wide range of both consumer goods and durable goods, and in particular Southern Sweden's largest discount department store Bo Ohlsson. Tomelilla is a trading hub for many surrounding towns.
The municipality is home to almost 13,000 inhabitants, about 5,800 of whom live in the main town Tomelilla. In the northern part of the municipality is Brösarp with about 1,000 residents living in beautiful surroundings close to the well-known "Brösarp hills". Other towns within the municipality are Onslunda, Skåne Tranås, Spjutstorp, Smedstorp and Lunnarp.
The increase in the number of overnight stays mean that tourism is growing and also growing in importance for the municipality. The large public magnet is Tosselilla Summerland (a water amusement park) which attracts up to 200,000 visitors to the municipality each year. The municipality also has many other recurring events that attract visitors. Tomelilla invests in domestic and foreign tourism, and all arrangements in this sector are translated into English, German and Danish.
With 1,680 registered companies, it is clear that Tomelilla is rich in entrepreneurs. Agriculture, tourism, trade and construction are the dominant industries.
